Pioli's offseason.

* He franchised Hali at the start of it.

* He drafted the following:
1. WR Jonathan Baldwin + a 3rd
2. C Rodney Hudson
3. OLB Justin Houston
3. DE Allen Bailey
4. CB Jalil Brown
5. QB Ricky Stanzi
5. OLB Gabe Miller
6. NT Jerrell Powe
7. FB Shane Bannon
* Vrabel retires. (Pioli's commitment to youth at OLB at least a contributing factor.)

* Signed Casey Wiegmann.

* Brought in a dozen UDFAs, including three people I would imagine will make the roster: DE Brandon Bair, OT David Mims, and KR Demond Washington.

* Signed Steve Breaston.

* Brought back Battle, Cox, Copper, Pope, O'Callaghan, Daniels, McGraw, and Langford.

* Brought every rookie but Houston into camp on time.

* Richardson, Gilberry will sign their tenders. Carr is holding out as of this moment.

* Signed Kelly Gregg.

* Sign LeRon McClain.

* Locked up Hali long term.

This is a typical offseason for Pioli. Discipline, discipline, discipline, and hold out for value at every turn.

As a result, we can say that this team has been moderately improved for 2011 by these moves alone, but that the biggest improvement will be for all this youth to see the field and as it improves, the sky's the limit.

Bravo.

2011 offseason > 2010 offseason

2012 Offseason = Who cares? We just won the superbowl!

Solid moves, if unspectacular. This is the type of offseason we should expect from Pioli every year now.

KurtCobain 08-04-2011 12:43 AM

So we'll sign a pro bowl FB to a one year deal every year?

Hammock Parties 08-04-2011 12:44 AM

I'm eager to see what Pioli does when he wants to bring in one or two big time impact players to get us over a hump.

Could be an awesome trade in the future.

once and awhile he will try and make the splash, at least that's what his MO was in NE, I am starting to learn toward that being more Bill though by the recent Ocho/Haynesworth signings.

but I mean, I am curious to see if by year 4 or year 5 and the team progression if he brings that Corey Dillon, Adalius Thomas type FA in on a big contract splash.

Yup. The solid, steady acquisitions were clearly Pioli's work.

The bigger boom-or-bust, flair signings seem to have Belichek's fingers all over them.

Carr isn't technically a hold out until after today. Right?

TYPE of season, Joey. Solid, somewhat boring moves that are nevertheless solid improvements.

He's going to sign his tender today and practice.

I disagree. Pioli is still filling out the roster, top to bottom. When he feels he's almost finished, I guarantee the final pieces are HUGE.
