10 year anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III

Oh boy, this is bound to make some people feel old. GTA III turns 10 years old this week. I remember being in high school when this came out, it was the first adult "themed" game I'd ever played and it completely blew me away. San Andreas was probably my favorite GTA game, but GTA III will always hold a special place in my heart.

IGN is doing a little GTA III retrospective:

IGN's original Grand Theft Auto III review.

How Grand Theft Auto III carjacked open world games.

The game industry remembers Grand Theft Auto III.

Dan Houser talks Grand Theft Auto III.

How Grand Theft Auto III delighted a generation.

Grand Theft Auto III's Liberty City radio set the bar.

Grand Theft Auto III's Easter eggs.

Grand Theft Auto III: IGN Editors memories.

Youre not old.

I played GTA 1 on PC and even had a little mod add-on you could get that replaced all the car names with actual car names like corvette, mustang, impala etc...

We played the shit out of GTA2 in college.

GENOCIDE!!

the games were groundbreaking but weren't fun to play for me. Too much like my real job

Wait, you have a job where you have sex with hookers and then kick them out of your car and run over them to get your money back??? :P

I bought GTAIII at midnight from Wal-Mart the day of release. I brought the instruction manual to high school and prophesied that it would be one of the landmark video games of all time. I was right.

Wow... time flies.

San Andreas is still my favorite.

Quite the prediction there, lol.

It sounds obvious after the fact, sure. But to a smallish high school where I was the only person aware of even sites like IGN, no one but me was aware of GTAIII. There was no hype or buzz around it in my hometown before its release.

This is what I played back in my day. The game that started it all.

GTA2 was the shit. Still the ONLY GTA to include vehicular weapons!

Oil slicks + busy intersection = pure awesome.

Yep. I played the hell out of 1 and 2. I happened to be in Best Buy the day it came out and bought it sight unseen. I didn't even know they were making a 3rd one at the time. There wasn't much hype before it came out. At the beginning most people hadn't heard of it. Didn't take long to catch on.

Remember in 1 or 2 wiping out all the Hari Krishnas and there would always be one ****er running away you had to go after.

Was just talking about this yesterday, reminiscing about getting in and out of a car until that Sean Price "Rising to the Top" would play.
