Sprint/phone rant...

So......I'm not a huge smart phone tech guy.....just got my first smart phone a few months back.

Google Nexus S (Sprint)

Love the phone....one of the main selling points as to why I wanted this phone was to use it's portable wifi feature, and be able to use it's internet connection for my laptop computer when needed.

This feature worked flawlessly when I purchased the phone. However now, it stopped working. Tried fooling around w/ certain settings, and still nothing. The computer reads the signal clear as day and says has an excellent connection, but there's still no internet connection.

So I called Sprint. They said that I would need to pay an extra $30/mo to have this feature (WTF??) I was never told this when I bought the phone, and to be honest, this was a major reason why I bought this phone, it was between this Nexus S and an EVO 4G which I thought was too big/bulky. When I was at the Sprint store, the sales rep (whom I don't remember the name/or face) told me all there was needed was the $10 internet fee, which I agreed to pay in the contract. So long story short, Sprint kinda just told me to shove it up my ass, and tough shit if this main feature doesn't work.

Anyone else have this problem? Perhaps this ****head at Sprint is just being a crazy dumbass, and maybe it's the OS (Android 2.3.7) that needs an updated version?

I fired AT&T

You can use PDAnet and a USB cord to get around Sprint's wifi fee (btw I think all the carriers charge for this) OR you can root the phone and use the wifi hotspot like crazy! Those are really your only choices.

Rooting is pretty easy actually.

I have an Evo, and it's awesome.....

It sounds like my company is switching me to an Iphone 4S next year, so I guess I'm joining the iTards

This forum's great for my Optimus S. You might find better places out there that are a little less techy, though.

Absolutely ****ing hate sprint.

About 2.5 years ago I purchased a blackberry from them with a three year. Went back to my old company in may and they offered to take over my phone bill.
I called sprint and had them transfer the line. Flash forward to june and they claimed that I missed 2 months and put it on my credit report. I have sent all my documentation about the change-over and they are finally working it out with my company accounts department.

Assholes had all the bill payment info but still thought they'd **** with me. one who sucks the peniss just realized I cancelled every line we had in the Omaha area, (over 12 lines through the same rep) and moved them to Verizon. He emailed me and asked if that had anything to do with my bill.
My email back?

"What do you think?"

Asshole
Doucher
****faces

**** sprint, at&t, verizon, t-mobile etc. **** them all.

I wish someone would come out with a company:

Any smart phone - 50 bucks
50 bucks a month
Unlimited everything
No contracts

They'd be rich, quick.

All companies have a tethering/internet sharing fee, IIRC.

Smart Phones confuse the shit out of me.

Fritz88 11-09-2011 08:41 PM

How would they know if I were tethering or not?

Root your nexus like I did and do whatever you want anyway.

Increased data usage.

Unless you're rooted. I have a rooted evo and it uses its 4G hotspot just fine with no no extra fee.

Yeah, I wouldn't ever try and use a rooted phone as my only internet connection or anything - they'd eventually figure it out. But using it to get online in remote locations from time to time won't hurt anything.

I think they now offer the unlimited plan, he'd be better off with it.
