nose tackle?

i admit, i don't watch much college football for a number of reasons, so i am clueless outside the top tier prospects that everyone is drooling over. are there any first round nose tackles, or any that might be available in the middle rounds? i think aside from depth and resigning carr, a nose would complete this defense. so who do i have to look forward to, and what round should i start looking for this man-mountain to anchor the defense?

repost police can **** off.

Dontari Poe from Memphis is a borderline 1st round DT. Some people list him as a NT because of his size, but if you watch clips of him he isn't your prototypical NT. He has really quick feet and can move for someone so big. IMO, you'd get much more from him as a 43 DT.

Fangupo!

kcfanXIII 02-07-2012 11:45 AM

i feel like kc has a 4-3 dt already in dorsey. what this defense needs is a true nose tackle. is this fangupo on anyone else's radar, or is he just a guy that a fan thinks would be a great fit?

He's like the 4th best NT in the draft. That's about it. He would be a good fit if the Chiefs weren't looking to draft a NT with one of their first few picks.

He's starting to get more love than Chapman, partly because Chapman just had surgery to repair his ACL.

Fangupo is just my pet draft pick.

I'm irrationally dedicated to drafting him. Though in the end, I think he'll end up being the best true 0-technique to emerge from this draft, especially for a 2-gap system like ours. He's not rated that high, but he's the best fit out there for our defense, IMO.

Most sites I see have Poe project late first, Chapman next late 2nd, Fangupo
rising rapidly to late 3rd. After that its projects like Nicolas Jean-Baptiste
from Baylor in the 5th. I would throw in Alameda Ta'amu whom I believe has the size to be a NT. He would be a projected 2nd round pick.

There's not really a single 2-gap NT I like from this draft. Poe comes the closest, and Ta'amu is more of a 1-gap NT.

If Ta'amu was just a one-minded dedicated block of granite, he'd be so perfect for the role I'd cry. But he tries to slice and dice through the offensive line. So I'd take a look at him with our 3rd, but not much more before that. We're going to have to completely re-coach him, and he may take a full three years to live up to his potential if we did.

I'm souring on Poe more and more. It's not very frequently that a massive NT with inconsistency issues from a small school lives up to a 1st round draft status. I'd be happy if he fell to our 2nd, though.

Chapman really is the best for our defense, but like it's been mentioned, he's coming off a killer injury for that position. If he falls to the late rounds like 6th or 7th.

The Chiefs really need to make a serious effort to bring in Soliai. He is a massive 2-gapper that offensive lines respect, looking for his second contract. The Dolphins can't retain him and chase Manning or Flynn. So he's hitting the market.

I don't think this fanbase can handle TWO Jerrel Powes. Our brains might explode.

Shit...Fangupo's made it to the 3rd?

I first saw him being a 5th rounder or even a UDFA.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!

That's just one source. I think later on I will make a consensus list of the services. At least for the positions we are looking into. That would probably be a project better left for after the combine.

BigChiefFan 02-07-2012 07:26 PM

This is for true NTs, there's only a handful every year.

Here's how I have them ranked at this point...

Poe
Ta'amu
Fangupo
Hicks
Jean-Baptiste
Hamilton

jd1020 02-08-2012 11:33 PM

I just realized Fangupo is going to be a 27 year old rookie.

With Chapmans draft stock seemingly plummeting due to his surgery on his ACL, I think I'd rather draft him in the 5th.

I think our best bet, is to trade down a little and draft Poe. Instead of picking up an extra high round pick for a trade down, we should try and get an even higher pick in next year's draft.
