DSL/ testing phone line

Just curious is it possible to to connect the Modem directly to the test jack on the phone box to see if you have service?

I had DSL service only, no phone, activated at this place I'm living but when I plug into the jacks It's not connecting. So I wondered if it was OK to connect directly to the test jack.

I'm thinking the box, incoming lines are not wired correctly or fully. As this place hasn't had phone service in some time. The outside box looks frickin ancient..

And yea I posted this in the media center.....but it's dead as normal there.

And tried the test jack, still nothing...I think that the box is screwed or something else on their end.

Just call your DSL provider. They should be able to ping and troubleshoot remotely.

He said they had no issues with the line, but they didn't detect my modem. SO it's either in my lines, or in the box or their lines.... in other words they have no idea why I'm not connecting :grr:

Have them ping your modem while plugged into the test jack at the demarc. If they don't see your modem there, it's gotta be the demarc, or the way it's wired. You are only responsible for what wiring is inside of your house. If they have to come fix their wiring or replace the demarc, do not let them try to charge you.

yes you can plug directly into the test port and it will sync if it's wired correctly. their records are likely incorrect regarding what port your line is connected to in the crossbox or terminal. they're testing some line that their records say is connected to your address but you're really on another. tell them to have a tech come out an fix it, its fairly simple and common.

Direct connect. By pass the filter.

Power cycle the modem.
