How coaches, scouts and execs graded the NFL draft

After talking to some coaches, scouts and executives around the NFL, here’s how they graded each of the NFL teams, by tier, at the NFL draft (from the bottom up)…

Teams who need their draft process re-examined:
Seattle, Jacksonville, Oakland, Detroit.

No matter what the Seahawks say, no one liked their draft… Mike Shanahan’s most hated team, the Raiders, didn’t pick until after the true third round portion, so what could they have gotten?… As for Shanahan’s Redskins, their drafts for years to come are pretty much dependent on the success of Robert Griffin III.

Teams who graded B to B-:
New England, Minnesota, Buffalo, Baltimore, Houston, Broncos.

The Pats had a terrific first-round in defensive front seven players Chandler Jones and Dont’a Hightower, but then Bill Belichick got squirrely. Nate Ebner, a rugby player. Really, Bill?… Like the Pats, the Vikings and Bills were good early, then made some reaches.

Teams who graded an A draft:
Tampa Bay, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Indianapolis, San Diego, Miami.

Bucs got the best safety in Mark Barron, second-best running back in Doug Martin, and the best Will in Lavonte David… Colts won the draft merely because of Andrew Luck, much like Broncos won free agency because of Peyton Manning… It hurts Broncos that AFC West’s Chiefs and Chargers did so well. Chiefs got NT Dontair Poe and OT Jeff Allen, who Broncos liked. Chargers got DE Melvin Ingram, DT Kendall Reyes, S Brandon Taylor.

Well, to be fair, before you can evaluate draft picks, you have to, you know, have draft picks.

Maybe they're also looking at how they lost the other ones.

Just a guess but since it's coming from Mike Klis I'd imagine that most of the people he talked to were from Washington, Houston, and Denver.
