RIP to the man who brought real beer to Wichita.

Back in the early 90's, I worked with Carol Griffin at the Wichita Business Journal, and she asked me to play a prank on her husband. I pretended to be from ABC and had a few questions for the owner the day before River City Brewery opened. Needless to say, he was not amused, but Carol got a pretty good chuckle out of it. Monte and I became friends, and found out we had a number of friends in common.

Guess he fell on some hard times, and had a hard time coping. I'm pretty damn bummed about this. I always thought he had his shit together, but I guess in the end, the depression got to him.

My deepest sympathies to his wife and daughter.

He had ties to Ark City, Wichita and Manhattan, a one-time walk-on wide receiver at K-State. He was also involved with Colbert Hills in the early days as well.

RIP Monte Griffin

Sorry to hear that.

Sry about your friend, Bob. If I may ask, what was the cause of death?

Suicide. Hung himself in the garage. I can't understand how anybody with a kid could possibly do that to themselves.

So they don't have to grow up seeing them in their worst moments and having that being the only lasting memory of them. The memory of suicide obviously lasts too, but the child has more memories of him at his best. My $.02

You also deny the child seeing resiliency, hope, and witnessing a good man overcoming adversity. Never let hope die. Never. Whether you get out of a rut or not, never give up.

We know this, but you can't rationalize that to someone who has a broken mind and spirit.
