Charges Dropped Against Elvis Dumervil

Following Tuesday’s practice, defensive end Elvis Dumervil was notified that no charges were filed against him from a late-July incident that occurred in Miami.

“It was a blessing that the investigators took the time and got the truth out and did their due diligence and tried to get things right,” Dumervil said. “I’ve been confident all along –- I know I didn’t do anything wrong. It was a matter of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I’m just ready for football.”

Dumervil said he’s anxious to move forward.

“I was raised a certain way. Having to make that phone call to your mom, getting out of jail, she was the first person I called,” he said. “I wanted to make sure she didn’t overreact or get too stressed. She doesn’t take bad news too well. Making that phone call is more than anything what I really remembered from this whole situation. I’m glad to move forward from there.”

While he felt confident that he would be exonerated from the start, Dumervil said hearing the news today was a relief.

“It is what it is in the profession that I play,” he said. “It comes with the territory. At times you could tell the truth and people could understand it, but at the same time, news is news and it’s not what happens, it’s how you respond to things. I knew all along that I didn’t do anything wrong. In that sense, the true fans know the type of person that I am and the way I’ve conducted myself since I’ve been here. I’m just ready to continue my life.”

He said he hasn’t called his mom to tell her the good news yet but is looking forward to doing so later today.

Now, his attention can fully shift towards the team’s preseason opener at Chicago on Thursday night.

“It’s huge,” he said about receiving the news before the season begins. “We worked so hard as a team and an organization since OTAs and minicamp. To come into training camp with an issue like that trying to assassinate my character -– that’s not something I’d like to deal with. It’s overwhelming to just be able to deal with football.”

Are you new here? There are a lot of non-Chiefs topics posted on CP, from Rainman telling us his riveting story about how he coasted into his garage, to Frazod murdering his refrigerator. The variety of topics covered on CP is what makes CP great.

PS. It's nice to see you posting something other than links.

You can't be legally prosecuted for stupid.

In other news:

Demaryius Thomas missed part of Broncos practice Monday after his Achilles "tightened up."
The tightness was presumably in the right Achilles' tendon that Thomas tore in December 2010. Coach John Fox said it wasn't "anything serious," but it will be a concern if it pops up again. Denver will head to Chicago for its preseason opener on Thursday.

Uh-oh, the gimp is hurt again. Achilles injuries are no joke.

ToxSocks 08-07-2012 12:45 PM

All this talk about Manning's head falling off has allowed us to forget about his pansy, oft-injured "Top" WR.....
