When do you give up as a fan?

This is not a thread about not being a Chiefs fan, just a thread wondering about those who don't spend as much time being a fan.

I know this subject has been covered ad nauseum, but lets take a different look at it. The Chiefs suck, they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. The Buckeyes are on a bowl ban, they are way overrated at #12, and watching them on Saturday made me sad. I realized that this team has a long way to go before I consider them good. I have become some apathetic towards the Chiefs and the Buckeyes that a lot of times I just don't care. I only watched 2Chiefs games last year. The Buckeyes I watched all their games, but never with great expecations.

When do you reach a point where you realize that your time is better off doing something productive? Have you as a fan reached that point? Are you a fan who will never do that? I admit that I will not go out of my way to go to Damon's and pay for lunch so I can watch the Chiefs this year. I remember the days of Trent Green and Priest Holmes, I was actually excited to watch the Chiefs, but I digress. I will keep watching the Buckeyes, but man does it suck to have teams you know aren't going to do anything this year.

Another thing that cracks me up. Every year you have the kool-aid fans who are always trying to calm everyone down, yet every year we end up sucking as usual. I don't get annoyed with the fans who are optimistic, but in the same sense it's the same freaking song and dance every year. Well it's only the preseason, well its only the first game, well everyone else looked bad. It's just the same old drum being beat. At the end of the day the Chiefs suck and will continue to suck until we have a QB and a competent head coach and GM. Other than that we are right on schedule!!!

It was probably the game against the Raiders before the playoffs a few years ago.

For the record, though, I hated the Cassel trade, but I still had a little hope.

It's sad having no real hope of fielding a great football team. Obviously where I live everyone is either a Browns or Bengals fan. Whenever I talk football they ask me who I like, and I always say "The chiefs" and then they say "ohh so you know how we feel", then I shake my head, because I know that feel bro.

Yep, that's where we are at.

I am surprised that fans show any pride for our team any more.

When they don't draft a QB in the first this next year. ;)

Seriously though that might just do it for me.

I did when I saw the business side of those jokers up close and personal. There's really no emphasis on winning as long as the ledger is in the black. This was 6 years or so ago. There's absolutely no chance I'll throw a remote through my TV at this point but I'll always watch and try to enjoy it.

I'll never give up. It's entertainment to me whether we win or lose.

It would be interesting to see how much more a team makes if they are a SB contender vs. just being average-mediocre.

People always say that they would make more if they build a contender, but sometimes I wonder....

I think last season was the first time I decided to not get emotionally involved. I took a couple Sundays off and it was really nice...relaxing. I didn't worry about the games. I still DVR'd the games and checked on the scores to see if it might be entertaining to watch, but I didn't make it any kind of priority. I have a feeling I'll end up doing the same thing this season.

I have been a Chief fan for 25 years and find myself not caring if I watch the game. For about 10 years, I did not miss a game. However, last year I watched about 5 games. The decisions this team has made in regards to QB and head coaches is down right mind boggling. The fools that run this team have really pulled the reigns on progress and until they make a commitment for a franchise QB, I don't see anything changing anytime soon.

I've given up expecting anything. If I was a Chiefs / MU / Royals fan I might give up sports altogether.

When you don't miss it and don't find it necessary to schedule around it anymore. Me, I love football not just the Chiefs. But I've decided to work a few Sundays and enjoy the games I will be able to watch but not stress about missing the ones I won't. I'm at the point where I don't feel the need to devote my entire Sunday to the Chiefs. Instead, I will hopefully be able to listen to the game at work and be doing something productive.

I will not miss a Sporting game in KC though. I've scheduled work, vacations, and everything I can around those games. I dvr the road games I must miss due to work.

I used to break neck speed after Church to get home and watch the game. Not so much anymore.

I would not play golf on Sunday afternoon to watch the Chiefs.

Well, I might break neck speed after Church to get home, but it might be to play golf.

Dayze 09-10-2012 08:31 AM

my days are increasingly 'football hectic' on Saturdays anymore. I watch the Chiefs, then basically go on with my day. only reason I watch NFL is because of the Chiefs, so it sucks when they're terrible.
