How do you pronounce "Tournament"?
 

It's that time of year. Listening to the radio this morning, and the host was pronouncing it one way while the guest talking head was pronouncing it completely opposite.

How do you say it?

TORN-a-ment?

TURN-a-ment?

Turn.

I'm not from the east coast, so TURN-a-ment.

The only people who say "Tore-nament" are Daniel LaRusso and his mom from Karate Kid.

TORN - Back East dialect

TURN - Midwest/South dialect

I have friends from both regions that pronounce it the opposite of what you indicate. That's why I ask...

Well most call it NCAA Tore-nament.

Kentucky fans call it NIT Tore-nament.

oh, and as my friend in NY always says: Toy-Nament. The R is silent.
