Question on the draft trade value chart...

NFL: AroundTheLeague ‏@NFL_ATL 36m

From @NFL_CFB: Falcons are one of the teams to watch in a trade-up with the Texans http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap200...Twitter_nfl_cb

So my question is in General how do teams determine a value for picks next year using the chart? http://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp

If the Falcons trade up from 6 to 1 1,600 to 3,000 we have a difference of 1,400. They really can't make that up in this year's draft. So do they just use a 1st rd'er in next year's, approx 8th overall? but how do they assume where a team is going to be next year?

I know it's not the Chiefs but I though it might be fun to toss it around and throw out some possibilities how the 6 to 1 could work. Thoughts?

General thought is to take the relative position for next year's pick and move it down a full round for the current year "point value".

Personally, I don't think that works terribly well with a projected top 10 pick for the next year (which obviously depends on that particular teams' projection for current season). It's just a general approach. I'd think a projected Top10 pick next year should downgrade maybe half it's value rather than a whole round. Now that I look at the chart, moving down a full round (other than the top 1/2 of 1st round) is a bit < half the pt value, so it's fairly close to that.
