CP Jeep Folks

2001 XJ, won't turn over. Electric works. Took it to a shop I thought I trusted yesterday who said the starter was bad and replaced it. Picked it up and brought it home last night. Just went out to run some errands and it won't turnover, same thing, electric fine just won't start.

Any thoughts on what's wrong with it? This thing has been stolen a few times in the past, ignition maybe?

Did I totally get jobbed on replacing the starter yesterday?

***it's an aids thing, I completely understand***
***off road through an antifreeze puddle***

Engine needs fuel, air, spark. Check for spark at a plug. You have that, and it isn't electrical. I don't know about "newer" jeeps. Mine is 68 years old. Not sure what '01 jeeps have as far as fuel systems. surely not carbureted?

I wouldn't get it... it's a Jeep thing.

Trade it in to hometeam and buy a boring honda civic.

Ignition starter switch or the Neutral Safety Switch. NSS is expensive as hell. Can be self reconditioned if you are comfortable doing so.

trade it in for an older jeep. One you can work on yourself.

My poor niece. The BIL bought her a VW Bug and first time out driving by herself she goes to fill it up. She grabs the green handled gas pump but is confused because it doesn’t fit so some “friendly older guy” in a work truck tells her that some of these foreign cars are like that and holds the flap open with a screw driver so she can pour Diesel down the filler neck. The car makes it home before it starts coughing, sputtering and falling on its face. Expensive oops, had to drain the gas tank and flush the fuel lines, her dad was not pleased. “What part of holding the flap open with a screw driver seemed normal to you?!” ROFL

OK.
I know enough than to try and fill up with diesel. So I've got that going for me.

CaliforniaChief probably has better odds of re-plumbing Oakland Coliseum than I do of fixing this myself.

Was replacing the starter logical, or was that bullshit? I'm just trying to get some insight before I take it back up there to have them look at it again.

ShortRoundChief 11-18-2014 04:42 PM

Should have bought one of them foreign jobs.....

What I would do if I were you:

Go up there and grab the guy who worked on your car by the collar and pull him real close and say "You sir are a person of questionable character. Now are you going to fix this or are you just yelluh?"
