NFL Draft Selections

Round 1: Ereck Flowers, OT - Miami (6'5" 324)

Solid pass protector and devestating run blocker that is tough as nails, with the size and mobility to play either end of the offensive line.

Round 2: Justin Hardy, WR - East Carolina (6'0" 188)

An extremely quick receiver that runs great routes, creating immediate separtion, and has the hands to catch the ball anywhere on the field.

Round 3: Doran Grant, CB - Ohio State (5'11" 193)

A quick, reliable cover corner that can come up and support the run.

Round 3: Henry Anderson, DE - Stanford (6'6" 295)

A force against the run and can get after the QB from the 3-4 end position.

Round 4: John Miller, OG - Louisville (6'2" 320)

A rock at offensive guard that doesn't get beat and doesn't get pushed backward, plus he can create movement in the run game.

Round 5: Jake Ryan, ILB - Michigan (6'3" 235)

A terrific linebacker that can play downhill better than any prospect in this draft, but has the speed and ability to cover in space from sideline-to-

A very adept run defender that is also solid in pass coverage, a true student of the game, and outstanding leader on the field in the mould of a Dawan

Landry.

Round 7: Justin Coleman, CB - Tennessee (5'10" 190)

A terrific slot cornerback in that he flips his hips extremely well and can keep pace with shifty receivers, but also supports the run extremely well.

Round 7: Brock Hekking, OLB - Nevada (6'4" 255)

A solid edge defender and team leader who happened to have a slightly down year, but gives you 100% every play.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-14-2015 07:42 PM

That's a draft that takes care of all our needs , looks solid. I like the Tackle in the 1st ,WR in the 2nd.

Hog's Gone Fishin 01-14-2015 07:46 PM

What happened to Terrell Pryor ?

Direckshun 01-14-2015 07:46 PM

Hooooooooooly guacamole.

As always, I love you working with the cap to see what we can do.

But extending DJ? Cutting Bowe? That's a low-balling on Justin and a high-balling on Rodney, although I suppose that should even out.

Flowers is a solid and probably necessary pick in the first.

Meatloaf 01-14-2015 08:04 PM

Ohmygosh! I have no idea if your draft is good or bad, but hats off to you for what appears to be a most comprehensive assessment.

Kccrow, I have no idea what you do for a living, but the Chiefs organization could probably use a bit of your passion!

Two giant thumbs up for a remarkable effort!!!

Thank you, any time. I don't know if 6 years, 91 million is low-balling Justin, and its more guaranteed than Watt got. I read an estimation by sportrac that thinks 6 years, like 92.5 million with 49 guaranteed. They are off on the guarantee. The highest guarantee amongst defensive players is like 27 million. No way he gets close to 49 unless this franchise is that stupid. I went with a value on Rodney that I think he's worth and would get on the open market, he's really undervalued because of the overall performance of the o-line, but the guy played close to an All-Pro this season.

I'm an operations manager currently looking for greener pastures. If the Chiefs want me, I'll be there haha. I'm 4 courses away from a masters in accounting btw. :)

Might have to once I find out his contract demands... I've read a huge range, but some in the range of 4 years, 38 million with 12 guaranteed. He's not worth anywhere near that right now. If the Chiefs can get him on an Avery-like deal, I think he's worth a shot.

wish i could snap my fingers and make it happen

grabbing a good FA wr is the only thing that makes drafting a first round OL palatable

5/38? Maclin will get almost double that.

Maclin is getting AT LEAST what Bowe got.....more than likely more.

Maclin isnt getting anywhere near double what he mentioned, that would be 15m a season, and would put him within a million dollars a year of what calvin johnsons making...and he isnt getting what Bowe got.... Bowes set to be the Third highest paid WR in the nfl next season... You think a guy with an acl tear and 1 1000 yard season is going to become a top 3 paid wr in the nfl.

Both Decker and Djax, are young guys without acl tears, and signed for 8m per, and 7m per last year, and thats with djax having 4 1000 yard seasons, and decker having 2. Maclin probably wont get much higher than that, if at all. 5y 38m = 7.6m a year, that probably isnt all that far off.

We should sign Maclin and trade Bowe + a pick for DJax.

I have Maclin in a slot where I feel there is value vs. production. I signed him in the same area DeSean Jackson got signed. I wouldn't pay much more. I'd make an effort to sign him before Shorts, and if it took the money I have allocated to Shorts to get it done I'd use it, but that's the absolute maximum. No way Maclin gets in the 5 year 70+ million range with more than 30 guaranteed unless a franchise is both stupid and desperate.

The closest recent contract that might set up Maclin is Mike Wallace, and I thought the Dolphins wayyyyyyy overpaid. 5 years, 60 million with 27 guaranteed was too much for him. 19 of that 27 million was guaranteed salary too.

In any event, guaranteed money really matters most, and Maclin would be getting 16 million over the 1st two years of the deal. He'd get 11 million in year 1 and 5 million in year 2. DJax got 8.5 million in year 1 and 7.5 in year 2 in a very similar deal. There are only 6 receivers in the league that will have received more guaranteed (this excludes fully guaranteed 1st round rookie deals like Watkins, Jones, and Blackmon) and one tied. He'd rank 15th in overall average per year. I thikn that adequately puts Maclin in the correct range of production.

Maclin tied for 11th in receptions in 2014 and 9th in yards and 9th in TDs. That is great, but that has not been the normal for Maclin in his career. In 2013, Maclin was out. In 2012, he was ranked 22nd in receptions, 28th in yards, and 17th in TDs. In 2011, he was ranked 26th in receptions, 29th in yards, and 33rd in TDs. In 2010, he was ranked 19th in receptions, 18th in yards, and 7th in TDs. His rookie year of 2009, he was ranked 33rd in receptions, 34th in yards, and 37th in TDs.

Overall, he's averaged 15 games played, 69 receptions, 954 yards, and 7 TDs with average ranks of 22nd in receptions, 24th in yards, and 21st in TDs. Since his rookie year (2010 to 2014), his average rankings are 20th in receptions, 21st in yards, and 17th in TDs.

Point is, Maclin had a nice, top-10 year, but he barely averages top 20 for his career. Could Maclin potentially remain top 10? Yes. However, he could also easily dip back down to the average #1 that he has been. So, is being 6th in guaranteed money and 15th in average salary year fair? I think it is. I think his value is in that 7-8 million per range with 15-20 million guaranteed. Once you get outside of that, you're banking on him repeating 2014 over and over again. Speaking from a perspective of contracts, you're then looking at an average of 9-10 million per with 18-21 million guaranteed.

This is why I say, if I were to sign Maclin to a maximum contract, it would be around 5 years, 47 million with 20 million guaranteed. After that, he's too expensive for his production.
