It's Not All WE can Eat....

I saw this story, and it reminded me of last night. I went into my favorite local neighborhood mom and pop diner, and one of the waitresses was crying because a table of six got up and ran out after dinner without paying. Ran up about $100 and just ran out the door. And of course, no tip. People suck.

A Chicago woman was arrested Nov. 6 after she became irate and threatened a waitress over a restaurant's policy about sharing unlimited pancakes, according to Oak Lawn police.

Natasha West, 27, of the 900 block of East 80th Street, was with friends at Denny's, 9217 Cicero Ave., and ordered the $4 all-you-can-eat pancakes, police said. They reported that when she began sharing them with her friends, a waitress told her that was not permitted, that the offer was good for only one diner at a time.

Police said that angered West, who swore at the waitress and swung her fists at the woman several times but did not hit her. She and her friends then left without paying, with West kicking a door several times on her way out, according to police.

They said a restaurant manager called police and gave a description of the car that West and her friends drove away in, and it was spotted a short time later by a Hometown officer who stopped the car at Southwest Highway and Pulaski Road.

The group was brought back to Denny's, where West was identified by employees, and one of her friends paid the bill, police reported.

West was charged with assault and damage to property, and another person in the car, Jerome Lee Ivory, 31, of the 9500 block of Avalon Avenue, Chicago, was charged with providing false identification.

The waitress was not injured, police said.

Eating at Denny's should be punishment enough.

Where is pancakes house?

Well, I'm scratching Denny's off of my "safe space" list, that's for sure!

I can't believe we've now allowed people to be protected from violence during or after the act of stealing.

I'm not saying I want my Local Denny's to have a loaded shotgun behind the server stand but if you try to "dine and dash" you should be allowed to attempt to hold people until authorities arrive...

Take it from someone who worked in the family, liquor store business for several years. The criminal has more rights than you. PERIOD!

People would come in the store and get pissed because I wouldn't give them a 40 oz. on credit and start tearing up displays on the counter and out of the floor. Some would just grab shit and walk out. There really is nothing you can do about it.

If you try to restrain them physically they will have you arrested for assault. If they rob you at gun point, the instant they turn their back to you they are in the clear and you can do very little to stop them.

One guy I know put remote locks on his door so if you try and walk out without paying he hits a button and the doors lock. That's about the best and only way to handle it without getting yourself in trouble.

Denny's slogan should be "Hey, we're open."

All restaurants should give free food to anyone with a debt.

Plus sometimes restaurants actually charge the waiter/waitress when someone dines and dashes. What a bunch of crap that is.

No philosophical conversations about the legalities of the all you can eat slogan?
