New room found at the Winchester House

I must admit that I find this confusing. If they know that she was trapped in the room, how did they not know the room exists? Did she write something that was in the room when they found it, perhaps? You'd think they'd mention that, though.

And there are two dates in consecutive sentences about when it was boarded up. There's more here than meets the eye.

NEW ROOM FOUND AT SAN JOSE'S WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE

Monday, October 10, 2016 10:09AM
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- A new room has been discovered and is open to the public at San Jose's Winchester Mystery House, a Victorian mansion that was home to a widow of the Winchester rifle fortune.

The home's preservation team recently opened the new room, which is an attic space that has been boarded up since Sarah Winchester died in 1922.

Winchester boarded up the room after the 1906 earthquake because she was trapped in the room and she thought evil spirits were responsible for the quake.

The preservation team found numerous items in the room, including a pump organ, Victorian couch, dress form, sewing machine and paintings.

The new room means 161 rooms have been found in the mansion that is a California state landmark, San Jose landmark and is listed on the National Archives of Historic Places.

The house has 10,000 windows, 2,000 doors, 47 fireplaces, 40 staircases, 13 bathrooms, and nine kitchens.

It's a pretty interesting place to visit.

I love this sort of thing - I'd love to go up to Pt. Pleasant WV and stay at the Lowe

Wait, if she boarded up the room while she was trapped inside, is her dead body still there? How does anyone know anything about this lady? Is'tn ti kind of psycho to board yourself into a room you are already trapped in?

The sentence isn't worded right. Due to the earthquake....she was trapped in the room. She was freed and THEN boarded up that room because she thought that the spirits had caused the earthquake.

So spirits can travel through the ether to cause earthquakes here, but they can't travel through a few pieces of wood? That's still psycho, but in a different way.

She was ****ing nuts. She had contractors working around the clock because she thought that if they house was being built....that the spirits were pleased. This was all because she felt that she was cursed by all of the people that the Winchester rifle had killed.

It is a fascinating "house" so anything new like this is also fascinating for me. Thanks for making us aware of this new discovery!

161 rooms and only 13 bathrooms? WTH? That is a very poor ratio.

Only one shower.

She also was captivated by the number 13. Her will had 13 parts and was signed 13 times.

The house has 13 bathrooms, and the 13th bathroom has 13 windows and 13 steps leading to it.

Many windows have 13 panes and rooms have 13 ceiling panels.

True. But it does have the hallway to nowhere and a door that opens up to the lawn.....except it's 10-12 feet above the ground.
