Thoughts on the Offense.

IMO, there has only been 1 game this season where the offense has look competent at all by NFL standards. That was the game at Oakland.
That also is the only game where we came out with the mindset that we were going to run first, and pass to compliment the run.

I know game situations dictate stats somewhat, but look at the game by game rush to pass totals:

Chargers - 19 rushes, 48 passes
Texans - 19 rushes, 37 passes
Jets - 27 rushes, 33 passes
Steelers - 18 rushes, 50 passes
Raiders - 40 rushes, 23 passes
Saints - 28 rushes, 24 passes
Colts - 27 rushes, 41 passes
Jags - 22 rushes, 33 passes
Panthers - 20 rushes, 38 passes
Buc's - 21 rushes, 31 passes

Go back to last season. Same trend.

Texans - 32 rushes, 33 passes
Bronco's - 28 rushes , 25 passes
Packers - 18 rushes, 40 passes
Bengals - 23 rushes, 45 passes
Bears - 25 rushes, 30 passes
Vikes - 18 rushes, 37 passes
Steelers - 29 rushes, 32 passes
Lions - 32 rushes, 28 passes
Bronco's - 32 rushes, 31 passes
Chargers - 31 rushes, 25 passes
Bills - 27 rushes, 30 passes
Raiders - 22 rushes, 22 passes
Chargers - 25 rushes, 23 passes
Ravens - 28 rushes, 25 passes
Browns - 27 rushes, 22 passes
Raiders - 39 rushes, 25 passes
Texans - 37 rushes, 17 passes
Pats - 32 rushes, 50 passes

We are not a passing team, yet we try to be one. Commit to the run and mix in the pass as a compliment. 60/40 ratio needs to be the goal, with 50/50 range being acceptable. We are a very good team when we do this. Not so much when we throw it 1st.

Running the ball isn't cute enough for Andy most of the time..

Even when a running game isn't having success, it only takes one good gain to spark it. Andy gives up on it too quickly.

Being an old school West Coast offense guy, Andy is addicted to the short passing game like crack cocaine. In many respects, Andy is your typical offensive coordinator in today's NFL. They do not have the patience to stick with the run game. They are still focused on the short-term and forget about all of the long-term benefits a ground game brings to the table. A perfect case in point was yesterday's game. With the defense struggling to get off the field, one thing the offense could have accomplished was to have long sustained drives utilizing the run game, but we don't even consider it.

I think our offense sucks this year. (am I doing this right?)

No you aren't.

You're supposed to scream that it's the defense's fault.

Were you aware that Alex has better numbers this year than Tom Brady did the first year he came to replace Bledsoe and win the Super Bowl?

Facts. Not fiction.

Yup, but I believe a lot of it has to do with the absence of Charles. Charles is a dual threat--opponents can't key on the run with him. Ware has shown he can be a reliable dual threat, but teams seem to anticipate his runs more. I don't know if it's formations or motion, but something is different...and I think other teams are able to key on the running more with Ware. Heck, if it were not for his yards after contact....Ware's rushing stats would be less impressive.

As others have said, Andy gives up on the run too early...but on the other hand, if 3-and-outs via run-run-pass-punt gives the ball back too often and your D can't get stops, you are screwed too. Right now, our gimpy D can't get pressure, and can't cover on 3rd-and-long. If the D could get healthy, I think that would help a lot.

Spencer Ware has the same YPC average as Ezekiel Elliot, but about 90 less carries. Our offense needs to be way more balanced.

We have been told by Alex fans since he got here that he is one of the best/smartest QBs in the league as far as presnap reads go. We have been told that Alex has the ability to call and change plays at the line as he sees fit.

Alex fans are also the first to bitch about Reid's playcalling.

Well AFC, you cant have it both ways. Either Reid's playcalling is shit, or Alex has no idea what plays to check into at the line, and isnt as good at presnap reads as you all claim.

We need to run the ball more. That is obvious. But is it Reid's playcalling that Alex is running without question? Or is Alex constantly audibling to the wrong playcall?

No one knows.
