Non-offensive-touchdowns

People talk about this like it is luck and I disagree.
The chiefs have the right combo of players and coaches to be successful at this. When it happens this often it can't be random.

This year, the Chiefs have returned four interceptions for touchdowns, and also scored via a fumble return, kickoff return, and punt return. That’s seven non-offensive touchdowns for Kansas City, the most in the league. In addition, Kansas City hasn’t allowed a single non-offensive touchdown, so the Chiefs obviously lead the league in net non-offensive touchdowns.

That’s a remarkable number: in fact, over the course of NFL history, only a handful of teams have been at +8 for the season. One of those, though, was this Chiefs team three years ago.

The 2013 Chiefs scored 11 NO tds and gave up zero for a net of 11 the highest in history. I think giving up non-offensive touchdowns is just a knife in the gut. I think as chief fans we are spoiled by not remembering that.

So you're telling me we are a well-balanced team.

No I am stating that the non-offensive touchdowns rate is historically good winning the chiefs many games. Balance would require a good/average offense.

My main point is this isn't luck as some people seem to think. We may actually be on the same side on this.

Since 2013 the chiefs have scored 28 non-offensive touchdowns and given up 2. That net of 26 is twice the next best team. The chiefs are literally twice as good as the next best team at this. I think that is remarkable.

It's part of our strategy to score on Defense and special teams. Just like every other NFL and college team. We just have the playmakers to get it done.

I don't know man... Their offense dvoa rank is pretty high. I know you like fantasy football but Reid is playing chess while most of us are playing checkers on our phones.

I agree with you.
I think some credit goes to coaching.

I remember during some of marty's years thinking the d has a better chance of scoring than the o. I'll bet those teams were good at this also.

This article is just a round about way of saying we should just punt on first down so we can score more points.

Rasputin 12-23-2016 07:46 PM

If our quarterback would play decent more than one quarter a game then I think our offense could help out with adding points on the score board.

Kudos to our special teams and defense making this team a playoff team. I hope we go far but I hope our offense can get into another gear too. Maybe we can get Jamaal Charles back for some explosive plays on offense?

Sounds to me that if the D and ST are scoring as many TD's as the offense, then you do in fact have a "balanced team" or balanced productivity, anyway.

That said, shouldn't the ratio be "unbalanced"?

In a ideal world yes.

Need to shore up that line and running game, get something going through the line as well as to the left and right of it.
Wouldn't hurt to have another high-end WR though I'm fairly confident that the current roster would fare better under a more capable signal-caller. Those guys are running all over the field, hands in the air, screaming "I'M OPEN, RIGHT HERE DUDE" to no avail.
Gotta' make those reads and see the whole picture regardless of whatever Reid has dialed-up. Sweet jeebus, one would hope that Reid's passing plays give the QB more than one option if needed.
