Q30 neck collar to help prevent concussions
 

Just saw this device spotlighted on a TV program and was wondering if anybody knew of any team that was trying them. It wasn't an infomercial or anything (Xploration Nature), and it seems simple, easy, and one heck of a breakthrough if it works. I coach hockey so obviously this would be something I'd be very interested in, the ice is very hard (!!!!), but I sure would have loved to try it when my kids were playing football too.

That's a pretty small sample size that they report on their website so it's gonna be quite awhile until they compile more data and we learn more of its effectiveness. Intriguing, nonetheless.

Agree, but the science behind it is interesting to say the least. I hope it's effective, and Q30 can find a way to integrate it into a hockey neck guard. Talk about putting some parent's (me included) fears to a lower level...

Us linebackers/running backs used to wear neck rolls in high school. Does this serve a similar roll?

Yeah, I can't find a price either. But I did send them a message, so let's hope they reply soon. Hey, I'd try a demo model on my kid if they'd let me.

No, the concept here is that it pinches you jugular veins slightly, this builds-up some extra fluid around the brain, and thus the effects of a blow/shock/sudden stop cause less movement of the brain inside the skull. Basically what rams and woodpeckers bodies do to avoid concussions.

I'm sure Roger Goodell would find a way to fine any user with a uniform violation.

Isn't blocking the jugular what causes strokes? That is what happened to my father. It seems like pinching it could be dangerous, although I'm not a doctor. I would like to play one on TV though....and I've spent the night at a Holiday Inn too.

Great question, but that's what a lot of there testing was about.
