Donald Penn holding out

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
Uh oh: #Raiders standout LT Donald Penn is not reporting for training camp, source said. He's unhappy with his contract.

**** didn't mean to put this under Chiefs

Red Dawg 07-28-2017 12:28 PM

Good for him.

staylor26 07-28-2017 12:28 PM

I've said it before, but Penn is old as shit and the Raiders are very shaky outside of him at both T spots.

RunKC 07-28-2017 12:29 PM

They also cut their RT Austin Howard this morning.

BlackOp 07-28-2017 12:30 PM

Good news...Jackson, Carr and Mack are going hamstring the shit out them.

Yea but Vadak Alexander is their projected starter at RT

Still the loss of Penn or a significant drop off due to age and/or missing camp would really sting

Lol. It's a two-year contract which he just signed a year ago. And sure he had a great season last year but at 34 years old he could very well have a sharp decline anytime soon.

Houston'a going to rape this guy LMAO

alpha_omega 07-28-2017 12:36 PM

Holding out...he must think he is better than i do.

TomBarndtsTwin 07-28-2017 12:37 PM

Good for you, Donald. I wouldn't play a down for Chokeland until they made you one of the highest paid LT's in the game.

Fight the good fight, my man . . . . . . .

Quesadilla Joe 07-28-2017 12:39 PM

I think the Raiders will cave if Penn is willing to take this holdout into the regular season. This is a big year for them, and they just invested a bunch of money into Carr.

BlackOp 07-28-2017 12:40 PM

He's only making $6 mill and gave up one sack last year...I dont blame him. He has the Raiders over a barrel and knows it...haha.

pugsnotdrugs19 07-28-2017 12:42 PM

The Raiders RT on paper is Marshall Newhouse right now, pretty sure he's below average

Buckweath 07-28-2017 12:45 PM

If there's any problem with 34-year old Penn this year, their offense could take a hit. I'm thinking they maybe should have drafted a tackle earlier in the draft this year instead of going all defense early pretty much.

He's actually right about average, good pass protector, poor run blocker. Have a couple of rookies that have the physical tools, but are both raw as hell.

Penn is making $7mil and most likely holding out for an extension since he's going to be FA next spring. Has the most leverage right now to get a longer contract and more $'s. Doubt this lasts long though since we did just open up about $6mil in cap space with a couple cuts.

We are far from being cap strapped because of the smart way Reggie has worked contracts to be pay as you go with most having little up front.
