The Chiefs’ rebuild is on in full force, apparently, as the club is expected to part ways with safety Ron Parker this offseason, sources told The Star on Monday.

The move is expected to create approximately $4.9 million in salary cap space in 2018 for the cash-strapped Chiefs, who are expected to have approximately $19 million in cap space when Parker is released and the trades of quarterback Alex Smith and cornerback Marcus Peters are made official next month.

The Chiefs will create an additional $6.6 million in cap space if outside linebacker Tamba Hali retires or is released.

Parker, 30, has been a steady constant in the Chiefs’ secondary since 2013, when he was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks. Since becoming a starter in 2014, he has recorded 40 pass defenses and seven interceptions and averaged 75 tackles per season.

**** yes. Thank God.

I don’t know what he was set to make but I’ve always thought you needed guys like Parker one team. Cheap and productive.

Sanity exists.

He's not really cheap and was one of the worst performers on the team last year.

I think they can reasonably replace him.

His cap hit is $7 million.

He was a pretty decent safety at times during his stretch in KC. But yeah, makes sense to part ways with him now.

Mother****erJones 02-26-2018 03:43 PM

Not surprising with this youth movement

MGRS13 02-26-2018 03:44 PM

We could probably package him with say a sixth rounder and get someone's fourth.

O.city 02-26-2018 03:44 PM

Welp, it was a nice run.

lawrenceRaider 02-26-2018 03:44 PM

Thats addition by subtraction fellas. Enjoyed seeing him get roasted.

O.city 02-26-2018 03:45 PM

There may be like 3 returning starters on the defense next year, LOL>

That's true. I know everyone here wants a 23 year old All-Pro at every position, but that's just not gonna happen. He was a solid veteran safety for several seasons. He covered over the top pretty well for the most part.

For $5M in cap space, seems like an easy move. His play declined this year.

Cap space shouldn’t be an issue.
