Hypothetical: Is it possible for Bob Sutton's defense to NOT blow a lead?

Imagine that we're in the playoffs. There's 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter and we're in the lead. What is the SMALLEST lead we'd need to have before you felt comfortable that Bob Sutton's defense wouldn't blow it?

Poll coming slower and more painfully than a 13-minute game-winning drive against a Bob Sutton defense.

21 points. Sutton defenses are notorious for blowing large leads quickly.

10 minutes? And the opponent has the ball? I'd like to say 3 TDs would be a safe lead because more often than not our offense will come through enough to protect that lead, but I'd still be sweating with this defense. Even 24 if they score 3 TDs and get 2 pt conversions they could come back. So I guess I'll go 25 to feel completely safe.

Man that's ****ing SAD.

Hopefully, this game is a wakeup call for the team. I'd much rather them have a reminder that Reid and Sutton conservative, play not to lose mentality, doesn't work during the regular season than in the playoffs like the colts game.

How sad is this!!

Rain Man 12-14-2018 01:22 AM

To be perfectly honest, I'd need a 35 point lead. I would still lack confidence even if the lead was 28 points with 10 minutes left in the fourth. We would shut everything down on offense and allow them to roam the field on defense.

Dude, this has happened so many times in crucial games over the past several seasons that there's 0 reason to expect them to learn anything.

How much Curry did he tip?

Well I’d use the Colts game of 2013 and last years Titans games as barometers. It stuns me that Reid hasn’t learned to avoid this prevent offense thing.

In the last 15 years, NFL team trailing by 14 points on the road with 5:00 remaining have lost 1,040 times. Won 4 times.

When are they gonna learn let them score with 1:00 minute left?

Amazing that the Chargers came back from 16 at Pittsburgh....Steelers were 174-0-1 when leading by that margain...so almost 30 years of home games.

and to turn around and do this just 2 games later..what are the odds? That is 1 in 250 this week.

So overcoming 1 in 174 and 1 in 250 odds...that is some *cough cough* ..."luck"..and on National television both times.

I haven't seen a team this lucky since the 2016 Raiders and their record EIGHT 4th quarter comebacks.

IS paying for a happy ending?

Sure-Oz 12-14-2018 05:51 AM

Best defense is running the offense. They have to stay aggressive. No lead is safe with these assholes in the secondary
