Kid injured from car surfing - parent was driver!
(Kid is now dead).......apologies if repost.
Natural selection award of the month? https://ktla.com/2019/04/08/10-year-...n-kern-county/ A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured after being run over when he fell from the roof of a car being driven by a parent in California City late last week, police said. The child was “surfing” atop the vehicle in the area near Neuralia Road and Ironwood Avenue just after 4 p.m. Friday when he slipped, according to a news release from the California City Police Department. He fell in front of the parent’s car, which then struck him, police said. The boy received major injuries and was transported to a children’s hospital in critical condition. |
Seems like you're mixing up a couple of stories.
The 10 yr old from CA w/ parents driving seems to still be alive as far as I can tell. A 16 yr old w/ his brother driving from Wichita appears to have died. |
These stories hit close to home. Last summer friends of ours were vacationing and their recently graduated high school son was holding on to a friends car while he was on a skateboard. From what I hear they were just going from one house to another that was 3-4 houses away. Going slow...kid fell off the board and hit his head just right (no helmet) and has had the "thousand yard stare" ever since. He is friends with my son and I coached soccer and baseball teams with him on my team since they were toddlers. Good kid, tragic stupid stunt gone wrong.

They have countless videos of people doing shit like that and face planting hard. I always wonder how many of them come out seriously ****ed up. |

In Junior high i was riding a bike home to our farm at night, and someone let me grab onto the passenger door to hitch a ride up a hill and it was great, until the banked curve at the top of the hill where the bike dropped out from under me and under the rear tire where my ankles were driven over. One was hurt pretty bad the other just bruised. My friends and I used to hood surf in HS. Terribly stupid and lucky no one died. |
When I was a kid, we would occasionally go places in our pickup and I'd ride in the back. I was under ten years old and I would stand and 'surf' in the bed sometimes. No one ever thought twice about it. We never climbed on the roof or the hood, of course, but we were still one mild wreck or swerve from getting thrown.
For that matter, my dad used to take me on his bread delivery route, and those trucks had no passenger seat. I was five or six years old, and I'd ride on the engine compartment while both doors were open. In retrospect, my dad could at least have closed the doors. |

Honestly I’m not sure how most people, myself included, live past 18
