You can view the entire tournament bracket here as we go along, but here's the current state of the Midwest division:

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

I think this is my favorite division. Lots of interesting matchups. I had to go with Batman, LotR, Rocky, and Star Trek.

I think The Godfather may pull the upset here, but again, this is a contest about franchises, and Star Trek's dozen or so films holds up for me.

Batman/Terminator- tough call here, both great franchises. The Christopher Nolan Batman films though are great and win this matchup for me.

LOTR/Planet of the Apes- this matchup isn't close for me, LOTR easily.

Rocky/Friday the 13th- I don't care for either Rocky or Friday the 13th particularly, Rocky wins by a hair.

The Godfather/Star Trek- don't overthink this one you nerds, The Godfather is way better.

LoTR is a ****ing 4 seed? How did that happen?

It's all based on ticket sales. Do you think that's too high or too low?

I'd think it's too low.

But i'm a LoTR honk so i'm admittedly biased.

This, even though The Godfather doesn’t have as many films as Star Trek the first two in the franchise are the best two movies in this competition. Quality over quantity.

WhawhaWhat 04-18-2019 09:45 AM

I don't dislike the Star Trek franchise but The Godfather has 2 movies that are considered to be the best movies of all time so that's a win for that one. I love the Rocky movies, cheesy as they may be. I assume the Creed movies fall into that franchise as well I love those movies too.

Christopher Nolans' Batman is going to push it ahead of Terminator for me.

If it was all of the other Batman's, it would lose.

Molitoth 04-18-2019 09:48 AM

LOTR was pretty good, but the Hobbit series that came out afterwards was a ****ing joke.
(Legolas jumping on heads in rivers while shooting arrows and dorf barrels) <-- Forever **** that entire scene.

Because of that it should lose.... but Planet of the Apes is nothing special.

Do you penalize the LoTR franchise for the plodding, excruciating attempts at turning the Hobbit, a pretty short book, into three movies?

If you were committed to it, you could get through that book in less time than it took to get through the movies.

In looking at it, the issue is that LOTR is listed separately from The Hobbit on Box Office Mojo. It would have been a nightmare to trace down stuff like that for 83 nominees, but it probably would have been more accurate to lump them together. Oh well. Sometimes the ranking system isn't fair. :)
