The Greatest Movie Franchises of All Time - Championship

Links to preceding threads:

You can view the entire tournament bracket here.

Please vote for the franchise in each pair that you feel is most deserving of being in consideration for the Greatest Movie Franchise of All Time. I'll put one of these up every day or two as we go along. So vote!

Possible Concerns and Responses:
  1. A franchise I like isn't on the list! Too bad. Nominations are closed. This is just a fun offseason diversion, but feel free to complain in the thread if it will make you feel better.
  2. There's something on the list that I don't even think is a franchise! Don't vote for it.
  3. There's something on the list that I don't recognize. Yeah, there are a few that I don't recognize either. If you feel generous, look it up and determine if you think it's worthy. Or just don't vote for it. Either option is allowed.
  4. The seeding seems weird (or there's something I have no idea how it got in there). The seeding is based on total estimated tickets from Box Office Mojo, but some older franchises were randomly seeded since we don't have any data available about their ticket sales. Again, if you don't feel something is deserving, don't vote for it!

I got busy, and Tyreek shit went crazy, so we didn't get to follow the action as closely, but the MCU barely got by Bond, but eventually won by 4 votes. Really, I'd say that the MCU, Bond, and Indy are all pretty strong contenders, but we have to have winners and losers somehow.

So here we are. Star Wars vs. the MCU. I suspect Star Wars is going to prevail, but time will tell...

If nothing else, this tournament has made me realize how much people tend to cluster around the franchises they really love. I've probably seen 2 Bond movies in my life. I just don't care. I suspect others are the same way about the MCU, of which I've seen every single movie multiple times.

I'm not saying that they aren't great, and I've voted for it in a couple of these rounds. I'm just saying that we're almost measuring these based on what people have chosen to pay attention to rather than some objective measure of how good they are.

This shit is rigged

I think that we ended up with a good strong pair for the final. I used to like Bond, but got bored with it years ago. And give me Star Wars over LOTR. I really liked LOTR. But I like Star Wars a lot more. I didn't care for episode 1 or 2. But I thought that Episode 3 was really good. It showed us how Anikan became Darth Vader and how the Jedi fell. I think that overall, the franchise is worthy of being here It's a touch choice between the 2 left.

Even though Star Wars had more bad movies than good, there is no way I'm voting for the MCU. It should have been Indy vs Bond.

It really should have only been avengers rather than MCU.

I LOVE Star Wars but after Endgame esp., no way in hell I'm voting against MCU.

Eh, I get that argument, but it's really tough to make a meaningful division without it being ridiculous. Should Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, GOTG, Ant Man, etc. all been separate? What about Harry Potter vs. the newer stuff (Fantastic Beasts or whatever)? What about LOTR vs the Hobbit? Or what about Batman (90s) vs. The Dark Knight vs. the recent stuff?

In the end, it makes sense to me to use the broad definition of a franchise, but obviously there are a lot of different ways we could have sliced it.

I promise my intention wasn't to have the championship fall on this weekend. :)

I am not a big movie guy and have not even voted on any of these until the last couple of rounds. I also have to admit that I have not seen all of either of these franchises movies either although I am old enough that I saw the first SW movie in the theater while in high school.

Having put forth my lack of qualifications...

I voted MCU for really one reason only. I think they have done an amazing job of starting with separate character story lines and over time have dove tailed them into a single over-arching story line. At the same time most of them seem to stand alone as well. I can't think of any other series of movies that has done this.

By the same token, I think the biggest strength for SW in this poll series is the impact it had, especially the first releases, on American society. It became part of us over the years which I think is part of why people were so upset with the newer releases, they just did not stand up to the impact felt with the original three.
