When was the last time

..The Chiefs had a good defense? I mean a damn good defense?

Twenty years? Before that?

This is the elephant in the room even Mahomes gun can't kill. Which is ironic because the majority of the Chiefs players in the HOF are defensive players

Marty days? That 95 D was special.

That's pathetic.

Define good.

They had some good defenses in 2014 (2nd in points, 7th in yards allowed) and 2015 (3rd in points allowed, 7th in yards allowed).

They had some decent defenses in the Haley years (barely out of the top 10).

Been a while since they had a great defense.

It was in the Marty years. One of those years they allowed only like 12 ppg or something like that.

Not when it counted most.

This. The year Berry came back was decent.

We had to have some good D to get all those wins with Alex Smith throwing to the running backs and shit.

Same can be said about the Marty years. A couple playoff games in Buffalo come immediately to mind.

It just seems to me that you gotta be one or the other. Tough to be both.

Finding balance is the key.

I'm more inclined to blame the bottom 10 offenses led by Alice.

Jewish Rabbi 11-10-2019 10:18 PM

The only time a team had the #1 ranked offense and defense in the same year, they missed the playoffs.

el borracho 11-10-2019 10:19 PM

The defense carried Alex in the first two years of the Smith era. Before that? I'm not sure... were they good in Gunther's first year? Or do we have to go back to the Schottenheimer days?

Rain Man 11-10-2019 10:19 PM

I've never really thought about this, but who was Hank Stram's coaching staff? His defensive coordinator put six guys in the Hall of Fame, and I'll be darned if I know who it was. You never hear about the assistant coaches on that team.

And did they actually have a defensive coordinator, or was someone like Lanier or Bell or Robinson calling the defensive signals?

Wish Joe would have stayed on for 1 more year. It was Bono with the 95 D.

Three7s 11-10-2019 10:20 PM

95 was the last time this D was dominant. Some good defenses mixed in here and there, but never dominant.
