Did Toub.......
drop the ball on that successful fake punt not having our guys looking for that or was that on the player/players? Because I was saying to myself here comes the fake with about 6:30 left to go still 18 down ? What have you all heard ? Just curious.:hmmm:

The Titans pulled it off masterfully tho.
The dude running in last minute forcing them to rush was magnificent. |
Everyone was looking for outside run. Could tell all attention was outside & not looking for pass up the middle.

Someone in the game thread made a comment that was very astute. In that situation we shouldn't even put the punt team on the field. Just keep our normal defense out there with no one deep, and let them put it as far as they want. It would have shut down any fakes and a longer field would just let our juggernaut offense kill more clock.

I think they were looking for the fake. It's just that the fake was very well designed and executed.
It's one thing to know a fake is coming, another to be able to stop it. I'm not sure, but I can't remember the last time I saw a fake punt designed quite like that one. Everyone on the Chiefs looked like they were looking for a gunner to run a route; instead they used those two inside guys, with one running right up the middle. It was unusual. And I think the Chiefs players thought the play would be somewhere to the outside. |
A hundred people at our watch party yelled it would be a fake. It was just a very well executed play.

Everyone knew a fake was coming.
Should have had 11 guys up: two on both outsides and two split in the middle with 5 guys rushing. If we weren't set should have called a timeout. |
Well, Toub looked extremely pissed off, so I took that as he knew it was a fake also and someone messed it up.

idk what he chiefs were thinking. they were down 18 at that point with 6 minutes and some change left....did they really think they were just going to punt the ball.

I think Toub and the STs probably knew to be looking for the fake. I also think that last second 'run-on' threw everyone into flux and nobody could figure out their responsibilities in time. I'd have liked to have seen Dirty Dan (who by all accounts is the captain of the STs) take a timeout there. Or Toub. If there's anything to criticize it's that they had to realize they were scrambling and didn't just burn a TO to re-set matters. They got caught a little flat-footed there. But I think it was just a really crafty execution by Vrabel and his STs staff. |
