Raiders/Broncos Epic Fear of the Chiefs/Mahomes

Apparently no one cares enough about the Chargers to fear/feel anything, but the Raiders and Broncos are scared shitless...

From the Las Vegas Review Journal regarding the Raiders:

https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...homes-1947703/

Quote:

The current obstacle: Patrick Mahomes.

It doesn’t appear he’s going anywhere for some time.

Your move, Las Vegas.

Catch him if you can.

Mahomes is the NFL’s weekly example of an electric current charging across a 100-yard field.

It’s not so much about protecting a quarterback — although that helps — as it was against the likes of Buchanan and Bell and Lanier.
Rather, it’s about getting to one.

Which, when it comes to Mahomes, can feel hopeless at times.

In four career starts (and wins) against the Raiders, he is 82-of-135 passing for 1,194 yards with 11 touchdowns and one interception.
Gulp, is right.

“Obviously, the Chiefs are the team we haven’t been able to beat in the division lately,” said Davis, whose team is 2-12 against Kansas City since 2013. “It’s one of the reasons we drafted edge rushers (in Clelin Ferrell and Maxx Crosby) last year. We need more of them. We need another guy up the middle against Mahomes. We need linebackers to hold the edge. We need guys who can cover (Chiefs tight end) Travis Kelce and all their speed outside.

“Patrick Mahomes is unlike anyone else — he’s the monster now — and we need to improve all our phases of defense to deal with him.”
From the Denver Post regarding the Broncos:

https://www.denverpost.com/2020/02/0...hiefs-broncos/

Quote:

Denver, we have a problem. Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes is face that will haunt Broncos’ nightmares for next decade.

Denver, we have a problem. His name is Patrick Mahomes, the face of the NFL’s future. This young Chiefs quarterback is the biggest thing to hit Kansas City since Arthur Bryant, or at least Len Dawson.

Mahomes is not only the NFL’s new above-the-marquee star, he’s the face destined to haunt the Broncos’ nightmares for the next decade.

Denver, we have a problem. What on earth can the Broncos do to about Mahomes? You mean other than dream about Tennessee running back Derrick Henry joining the orange and blue as a free agent? Not much, unless you consider begging for mercy a viable option.

Mahomes is 4-0 against the Faders and already has 5 wins against the Cheating Donks.

Both teams have QB issues and average defenses.

Looks like it might be another sweep year coming up in 2020!

I'll just create a repo of these types of articles here:

It was amazing how many articles like this popped up from opposing teams websites during the playoff run.

https://www.republicworld.com/sports...ssessment.html

(The quotes from Haircut Davis in the above article are incredible - he calls Mahomes a monster and says countering him is the Raiders top priority).

Quote:

Raiders owner Mark Davis: "Patrick Mahomes is unlike anyone else — he’s the monster now — and we need to improve all our phases of defense to deal with him.
Pretty amazing contrast to 2 and a half years ago, where Raiders fans reacted to the Mahomes pick like this (seriously, check this out): https://www.reddit.com/r/oaklandraid...tm_name=iossmf

https://theathletic.com/1550678/2020...day-challenge/

The above article is great, and talks about how countering Patrick Mahomes is quickly becoming the rival AFCW teams top priority.

This article talks about how Drew Lock needs to develop into a great QB for the Broncos to have a realistic chance at competing with the Chiefs. It's a pretty good article - and features this section.

Quote:

Mahomes is Michael Jordan great.

A few months past his 24th birthday, Mahomes was the NFL MVP in his first season as a starter in 2018 and did even better in 2019 by demonstrating uncommon toughness and competitiveness while overcoming a dislocated knee injury to lead the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, then a fourth quarter rally to capture the world championship and trip to Disney World as MVP in LIV.

Yes, a Super Bowl MVP is better than a league MVP every time. Watch Mahomes’ body language and expressions during a game and it’s easy to conclude he not only has Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods’ talent, he has Jordan and Woods’ ever-present tenacious pursuit of victory.
It concludes that the Broncos need Fangio to develop a 49ers like defense and for Lock to develop into a better QB than Jimmy G. If Lock can be a great QB (while not Mahomes great), that can be what the Broncos need to compete.

This puts the heat on Elway a bit. One wonders if Elway's status as a Denver legend has insulated him a bit from the Broncos recent struggles. Not a lot of GM's would have a stretch like this without being in the hot seat, but outside of fan forums, not a lot of the heat has been directed at Elway, that may change if the Broncos continue getting routed by KC. It has a few gems, honestly the following quote is honestly a dream come true.

Quote:

It’s poetic justice then for the Chiefs that the Broncos GM feeling the wrath of Mahomes is none other than John Elway. The MVP quarterback is 5-0 against the Broncos, and his Chiefs team hasn’t lost a game by more than 7 points since Mahomes became the QB.
Hilariously, they then come to this conclusion - and you have to hope Fangio feels the same way.

Quote:

That’s why it’s more crucial than ever this offseason that Elway fortify the defense - particularly at cornerback and interior d-lineman (preferably an inside pass-rusher...or two).

Because the only way to stop the Chiefs is to stop Mahomes.

And that means a solid defense top to bottom. Although the offense clearly needs a lineman and probably another speedy receiver, it’s time for Elway to focus again on the D this offseason.
It is a new era, and what an amazing feeling that is.

Yeah, Raiders and Donks. Draft tons of Defensive players. Please.

Don’t bother with going to their forums. They either realize the truth and give props or are completely delusional.

There is no in-between. In other words it’s a lot like Chiefsplanet.

No matter what the Raiders do on offense they have no hope beating us with Derrick Carr. They want to build a defense to counter Mahomes but they better not neglect the offense because Mahomes can eventually pick apart any Defense.

The Rams last year beat us 51-50 and thats where the Raiders are going to have to get to.

But Good Luck. we Still have Mahomes and they dont.

Is Patrick undefeated in the AFCW?

Lost to the Chargers last year on defensive ineptitude (**** you, Scandrick).

JakeF 02-04-2020 12:44 PM

Raiders want Tom Brady.

O.city 02-04-2020 12:45 PM

It's like looking in a mirror of chiefs fans for the past however long. It's delusional.

Yeah, the best way to beat Mahomes is to …….go sign a running back? Really?

I love it.

That was more of Andy’s fault than the defense. Mid management of the clock knowing how the defense was playing.

Eric Berry - playing in his first game of the season I believe - yelling at other defensive players to direct them where to be? A receiver going completely uncovered on a blown assignment for the game-winning 2pt conversion?

Are we really still blaming Andy Reid for stuff like this? I thought we had gotten past such nonsense.

Deberg_1990 02-04-2020 12:54 PM

But Drew Lock?

Bob Sutton was responsible for really every single loss last season.

Andy was the one that kept Gramps far beyond his expiration date though so I can see the argument in the big picture.
