King Richard

Finished this last night on HBOMAX. What a great film. obviously a sports movie but more about the power of good parenting and family. Will Smith was great, but the script was even better. Check it out.

Very enjoyable. Will Smith was incredible. It's just a wonderful story.

It really was well done. I was expecting over the top ‘Oscar’ scenes and Hollywoodized story. From what I read it was mostly true. It was really well written and smart with great acting.

It’s was awesome to see how much their father cared for them and his other children. I was sad to read that the oldest daughter, Tunde, was killed in a drive by shooting later in her life. For Venus to do what she did at her age was incredible. Then Serena goes along behind her and ends up probably being the best women’s tennis player of all time, is unbelievable and probably none of this would have happened if it wasn’t for their dad. I really liked the movie and was so impressed with Venus’s decision on taking or not taking the Nike contract. Wil Smith was great in his role.

Yea. I had forgotten about Tundes killing. In the movie they say she stayed in Compton when everyone else moved to Florida. Incredible she stayed in Compton???

possible he was an overbearing shithead quasi earl woods but obv that wouldn't make a good movie

If there was huge shitty parts of his life they didn't include then I would say the movie was shit really even if it was entertaining (haven't watched it yet so can't even say that). I mean, if they left out huge bad parts of his life then I have to wonder how truthful the story is.

Sadly this this is often the draw back of most biopics. Things have to to be edited and changed to fit the story the directors are making. Not to say anything positive or negative about the writers or directors. They are making a movie not a documentary. They always take poetic licenses with it.

Just look at straight out of Compton. Great flick but they never touch on how shitty dre is to women or the Dee Barnes incident specifically.

I’m fairness, the movie at times did show him to be kind of an asshole. It wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns. But yes, obviously they ignored some of his dirty laundry. But sometimes that’s necessary to tell a tight, focused story.
