You were right AND you were wrong.

Now that the season has wrapped, what were some things about the 2021 Chiefs that you argued or predicted that were correct or incorrect?

I was right that our OL would be able to dominate on the ground when teams drop too many guys in coverage.

I was wrong that we would let them.

I had a bad feeling that, down the stretch, we'd run out of steam. It's just so hard to be this good for this long. The level of dedication involved is something most human beings could never endure.

And we did.

Three things I got right:
  • The DE position simply wasn't good enough. Chris Jones wasn't going to help, and they needed another DE or two. Melvin Ingram helped in that regard, but still wasn't enough to overcome the deficiencies.
  • That Chris Jones at DE was going to be a failed experiment.
  • That Jerrick McKinnon was going to be a player for us.
Three things I got wrong:
  • I thought Nick Bolton was going to be a wasted pick.
  • I thought we were going to get a great season out of Tyrann Mathieu as he headed into a contract year.
  • Mecole Hardman is a lost cause and the Chiefs just need to sink that cost.

I was right in thinking we would be fine after the Super Bowl loss.

I was wrong on a couple fronts. I was wrong about Brett Veach. He did a great job drafting this year and has earned the benefit of the doubt. I have faith he'll plug holes this offseason.

I was also wrong about Patrick Mahomes. I never dreamed he would be the reason we didn't reach our potential this season. But he was. He's still the best talent in the game. But he showed me something this year that I've never seen from him. Legitimate vulnerability.

He'll bounce back. But he's not the unflappable juggernaut I thought he was.

I was wrong in thinking that we would be the first 20-0 team in NFL history.

I was right in thinking that we have the best team in the NFL.

Right on:

Not addressing the #2 WR position would eventually haunt them. Offense was up/down over the year with mostly Hill and Kelce, but the lack of talent beyond them haunted the Offense when the Bengals said bring it.

Off on:

There being no way the Defense could rebound. While it fell back to dog shit in the playoffs, they had a nice run for awhile that I just didn't think they could accomplish.

We rely too much on Patrick Mahomes II to do the incredible every game and delivers but this game we needed to rely on the run game because coverage 8 and Mahomes wasn't ready for that and we have a real dominant front line that our running backs can bust 8+ yards a carry until the defense has to adjust then that opens up the passing game again.

I was right Mecole Hardman would make big time plays in the playoffs. I'm looking forward him stepping it up next year as a weapon. We still need a reliable #2 if not Medole but he is a play maker we can't give up on.

I was also right that CEH can be a bowling ball and better than what CP thought he was, I wouldn't call him a Jag. Although he just needs to stay healthy because he has injury prone label on him.

I was wrong about Brown being better in the pass protection he needs to work on that but he is a beast in the run game. I still like Orlando Brown Jr worth keeping because we have too many other needs that need to be addressed but his footwork in pass protection needs work to keep Patrick from having to dance around in the backfield and do those things that's what got him in trouble.

Every year I think we have the best quarterback to win us the Super Bowl but he needs a supporting cast to do so. I was wrong we can win it every year but really I don't expect it every year but i expect battles like we had and being in contention and dominate the West for next two decades we have Mahomes.
