PFF: Patrick as a pocket-passer (vs mobile)

Patrick Mahomes' injury could spell trouble against the Bengals. Plus, how the Chiefs bottled up the red-hot Trevor Lawrence

Rollouts and scrambles matter more to Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid than anyone else. During the regular season, the star quarterback led the league with 183 designed rollouts and scrambles. Not only was the volume there, but he led the NFL with a 90.6 overall PFF grade and an 84.4 PFF passing grade on such plays. The latter is especially impressive, as no other quarterback with at least 30 such dropbacks is within 10 points of that mark (Justin Herbert ranks second at 73.7).

Mahomes clearly wasn’t right after the injury. His passing grade during the final three quarters against Jacksonville sagged at 54.8. His inability to move was the primary culprit for his struggles.

…..Since week 13, Mahomes has been very ordinary when dropping straight back and throwing from the pocket. The Chiefs' approach appears to have become far more conservative, too.

I think that's right. Our WRs and OTs are not the reason we lead the league by a fair amount in yards per play -- 6.4. It's Mahomes' ability to buy time and deliver strikes on the move.

Anyone remember how bad the o-line had been BPM? Suddenly the o-line wasn't (as much of) a problem APM, and it wasn't because they were upgraded.

Shrug. These same guys graded him "barely a starter" in the Arizona game where he led the team to 44 points. Arizona had zero turnovers, which means the KC offense was going on long drives to put up the points. They even had a JuJu Smith fumble that cost them a possession, or they might have scored 50 in that game. Yet Patrick was "barely a starter" level QB according to these PFF dudes.

It wasn't really a thread to start with. Just a place for Prison Bitch to be a...well...bitch.

I don't care. The grade in that Arizona game makes me question everything about their grading system.

PFF named him the season MVP

Go get fired from another job your wife doesn't know about. Your baseball stats don't work with football

Fun fact: Mahomes, on one leg, had the highest passer rating of all Divisional Rd QBs.

Mahomes first games as starter in 2018 had him throwing TDs from the pocket.

Remember the games at Chargers and Steelers?
