Better hire: Andy Reid or Bill Belichick?

Did KC or NE make the better hire?

Reid in KC: 117-45 (.722)
BB in NE: 262-108 (.708)

6 years before Reid: 29-67 (.302)
6 years before BB: 54-42 (.562)

Reid with Mahomes: 64-18 (.780)
BB with Tom Brady: 219-64 (.774)

Reid without Mahomes: 183-120 (.603)
BB without Tom Brady: 79-88 (.473)

BB deserves his accolades for his long run and winning the SB many times. But Reid might get a couple more too - and who could honestly say he didn’t have the far tougher turnaround?

First in.

I went with Andy. BB took over a team that was what, 4 or 5 years removed from a Super Bowl appearance?

The Chiefs had close to the worst winning percentage in the NFL under Pioli. Andy immediately turned them into a playoff team.

To me, it's a no-brainer.

Reid.

**** Belicheat.

Easily Reid. BB is a near disaster without Tom Brady and without Tom...Bill is probably out of coaching at this point. Reid has done it with multiple teams, in multiple conferences, and different personnel.

I’d also add that Reid and the Chiefs made a strategic move to go get Smith and then Mahomes. Both took a pretty solid investment and came with a lot of risk.

Smith was up and down before Reid. Mahomes was an unknown, who many thought would be a bust.

Reid went after and developed both.

BB just got lucky with Brady.

Bill was fortunate enough to get Brady when he was young. Andy could theoretically go about 7-8 more years IMO.

But yes Andy is the better coach. Bill is nothing without Tom. Andy has taken many QB’s and turned those teams into consistent playoff teams

BB has more rings so its BB

We were 2-14 the year before he was hired. Outscored by 214 (13.3 per game). Our SOS, which is how many points off you are from average team, was -14.0. Easily the worst in 63 years of franchise history. The 2008 abortion was -9.2 worse.

If you look at ELO which is a similar measure, our franchise low point was reached after DungVer blew us out 38-3 in the last game of 2012.

BB's record was great.

In the current NFL Reid is better.

Reid for all these reasons.

Hoodie has dove nothing without Brady. Andy was in contention for a number of years with the Eagles

carcosa 02-09-2023 12:29 PM

Bill Belichick is literally the worst football coach of all time!!!!

First 5 seasons with a HOF QB:

Bill-3 Super Bowl appearances, 3 Super Bowl wins, 1 yr missed playoffs, 1 year lost divisional rd

Andy-3 Super Bowl appearances, 1 Super Bowl win, 1 Super Bowl TBD, 2 conference championship appearances

Bills got the upper hand in that race. But Bill got 19 seasons of Tom. I doubt Andy will get more than 12 or 13.

That’s a big disparity

FloridaMan88 02-09-2023 12:32 PM

Obviously Andy over Belicheat.
