Rip
First autograph I ever received in my life was from McCarver after a game he caught Carlton. sec |
The very FIRST MLB baseball game I ever saw in my life, June 26 1971, featured Tim McCarver playing catcher for the Phillies at Veterans Stadium against my Pittsburgh Pirates. I had just turned 8 years old earlier in the month. My neighbor's father took me and his son. They were Phillies fans.
He hit a homerun as well as Bill Mazeroski and two by Bob Robertson of the Pirates. I got to see Dock Ellis pitch and Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell. Epic moment in my life. The Pirates won the World Series that year. R.I.P. to a great ambassador of baseball and a wonderful announcer. Here is the boxscore. https://www.thebaseballcube.com/cont...HI197106260~r/ |
He was the Mets announcer when I was growing up as a fan of the team. I always loved the guy.
Sad to see him gone. |
listened to many a game he played in. Excent ball player As a broadcaster, dude sounded like he had a mouth full of marbles and just didn't come across as much smarter than a catchers mitt
