Changes to the read option
 

I searched and didn't see this being discussed anywhere. Sorry if it has. But it feels like our offense includes this technique, A LOT!

A new rule for 2023:

To make handing the football forward a penalty like an illegal forward pass, proposed by the Competition Committee

Rule change: This will penalize teams handing off the football forward on a read-option, for example, or any other running play a penalty. Handoffs will have to be made next to or behind the quarterback, not in front of.

Can't wait for the slow-motion 5 minute reviews trying to determine if the RB was in front of our just kind of to the side of the QB and at what exact instant the possession of the ball changed. Great job, NFL! Really making the game better with this one.

How is it any different than a forward pass, I guess I don't understand this rule

Yep. You can underhand pitch the ball forward, just so long as you're behind the line of scrimmage when you do it, but don't hand it forward. That would be awful.
