Dan Campbell
I don’t get it.
I ridiculed this hire the second the Lions made it, in part because Bienemy had been interviewing and I was convinced EB was a slam dunk hire. Instead, Campbell gets hired by the Lions. And it’s very clear to me from his first press conference that he’s a huge dingdong. He says stupid things. He doesn’t seem to possess a reservoir of intelligence that I can detect. He gave an interview with Pat McAfee where he literally describes himself as being distracted by fans doing the wave. What is going on? Why has he worked out in Detroit so far? Is this the best con job in America, and it turns out this guy is absolutely a genius? How the hell has Dan Campbell worked out? |

Saw an interview where he claimed he did not like pooping in Kohl’s. Dude is a literal dumbass

*shrug* Sometimes stupid coaches can win in the NFL.
From all reports and stories we hear, Mike McCarthy is an absolute dumbass. Not the same kind of dumbass as Campbell, but a dumbass nonetheless. I'm convinced Sirianni is a dumbass, too. And it's not just dumbassery. There are glaring flaws with just about every coach in the league, personality or otherwise. Hell, try to explain Mike McDaniel. Komboucha-swigging Todd Haley is actually doing an effective job? Certain coaches do well because they negotiate their glaring flaws well among their staff and excel in other ways. For Campbell, I assume players legit love playing for that guy. Sometimes the jester can be the king and still do a good job. |

He played in the NFL for 10 years. He has prior head coaching experience (albeit assistant and interim). He learned a lot while working for Sean Payton. He brought in a coaching staff that knows football, mostly former players. He gets the best from his players because they actively play FOR him. He builds them up and his energy is contagious. Sure he makes mistakes from time to time, but he knows more about the game than most. |

A lot of football playets in this world do not speak well when put on the spot but their football intelligence is usually spot on. |

He has one season where he was over .500 (by one game). I guess that's "working out" for the Lions but I'll need to see more before naming him the next coming.
