Kudos to Veach and the OL

It's pretty incredible.
And I think you have to give a lot of credit to Andy Reid for designing offenses that play to the OL's strengths, Andy Heck for developing some of the talent and given the OL the depth they desperately needed (Prince Tega Wenogho has developed well), and of course Pat Mahomes for developing his pocket presence to Peyton Manning-levels of excellence. |
Chiefs Kingdom doesn't deserve Veach.
It's embarrassing when you find a Twitter thread of Chiefs fans bitching and moaning about the man, like there are better GMs out there. |
Pat has more time to throw than he ever has
Pat has the best defense he's ever had Now we just need the young receivers to come along and we can get really, really weird. |
What has Veach done, though?
He did what most GMs can easily do, and spent huge dollars at two of the five positions. Veach gets credit for Thuney and (eventually) Taylor, but most GMs can do that kinda thing. What Veach did at the other three positions is what separates him from the pack. Notching an All Pro center at the bottom of the second round, notching a Pro Bowl caliber guard in the 6th, and inking an effective LT for peanuts in May, are all ungodly accomplishments. If a GM can pull one of those things off, you're doing pretty well. The fact he's done it at all three positions is ridiculous. |

What he did with Thuney was very savvy. He missed out on the LT he wanted but had a plan, which we all bitched about. But adding a guy like Thuney gas the Chiefs a foundation in which to build the line around. Yes. He hit a home run with drafting Creed Humphries. Huge position of need and he feel in to our laps. Smith was a find, but he's not the Pro-Bowl guard you make him out to be. I love the guy, with Creed they provide a lot of nasty that was lacking in the trenches. But I also think they signing of Taylor and Smith were shrewd. Again, Veach threw out conventional wisdom when he gave huge money to a RT. Its very similar to what he did with Thuney. And Smith, while not perfect, is a much better investment than Hopkins and OBJ. Nice stop gap that allows the Chiefs to compete for another championship while giving them more time to find the solution at LT. Also don't forget he had the balls to let Orlando Brown Jr walk. Bad GMs just give him the money. |

Now that I look at it....that is one badass, productive draft. Has there ever been a Chiefs draft that good? Kinnard is the only bust out of the group, and I think saying "bust" is a stretch considering he was only a 5th rounder. <iframe scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets/widget_iframe.2b2d73daf636805223fb11d48f3e94f7.html?origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.chiefsplanet.com" title="Twitter settings iframe" style="display: none;" frameborder="0"> now that </iframe><iframe id="rufous-sandbox" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="true" style="position: absolute; visibility: hidden; display: none; width: 0px; height: 0px; padding: 0px; border: medium none;" title="Twitter analytics iframe" frameborder="0"></iframe> |
