The Early Years Tournament: Round 1, Heat 23.

Take your pick from a pair of 44-point games against the NFC West here.

2022 - Week 7 - W 44-23 over SFO

Chiefs 4-2 / 49ers 3-3

The Chiefs were an offensive juggernaut on this day. Case in point: Mecole Hardman scored three touchdowns, and he was tied for fourth in yards from scrimmage with 60, behind Juju (124), MVS (111), and Kelce (98). Pacheco also had 60. Patrick had a great day with 423 yards passing. Our six touchdowns averaged 17 yards in length. The defense gave up points, but also registered 5 sacks (2 by Chris Jones that included a strip, and a safety by Frank Clark), and 2 interceptions. Joshua Williams made a great red zone interception to stop a very short drive after a fumbled punt return. Per tradition, we spotted the 49ers a 10 point lead before blowing the doors off of them with 30 second-half points. Unfortunately, the highlights don't show the signature play of this game, where the Chiefs flipped their feet in unison on a field goal attempt to cause a false start.

2022 - Week 1 - W 44-21 over ARI

Chiefs 0-0 / Cardinals 0-0

This is the bad-field game where the Arizona groundskeeper injured Harrison Butker on the opening kickoff. Butker later proceeded to kick a 54 yard field goal with no windup and four extra points. Stud kicker. Justin Reid went 1 of 2 on extra points as our emergency kicker and was great on kickoffs. The game was not as close as the score, given that the Chiefs led 37-7 at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The big offensive story is 5 TDs and 0 Ints on 360 yards passing for Patrick, with Travis as the leading yards from scrimmage guy at 121. Check out the pass to Kelce at 8:20 of the highlights. Wow. At one point Patrick had 12 straight completions. All three RBs (CEH, Pacheco, McKinnon) played well to produce 207 total yards. We had three sacks on defense, and oddly none came from Chris Jones, though he did force a fumble on a running play.

Both of these were showcases for Patrick Mahomes, and both featured unusual happenings in the kicking game. We started out deep in the hole in the 49ers game and blew the doors off of Arizona from the opening kickoff.

I'd like to pick the blowout, but the injury to Butker put a damper on that game. I'll go with the 49ers, but this one is 50/50.

49ers for sure. Blowing out another contender on the road after some early season struggles was awesome.

Clark owning Trent Williams was beautiful as well. He was mostly a piece of shit, but that was one of his best games as a Chief.

I'll take the 9ers game. They were a much tougher team than the Cardinals

49er game all the way, they supposedly had a top defense.
