Panthers hire Bucs OC Dave Canales to be their HC
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">A surprise! A first-time coordinator, his work in Tampa this year — especially with Baker Mayfield — stood out. <br><br>On to Bryce Young. <a href="https://t.co/NEIGnt36O3">pic.twitter.com/NEIGnt36O3</a></p>— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) <a href="https://twitter.com/RapSheet/status/1750565340042457348?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 25, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Wow. Dude definitely did a great job with Baker in his first year as an OC, but this is a pretty bold hire. |
I am guessing there weren’t many coaching prospects lining up to work for Tepper.
|
Seems like a good hire. Maybe he can help Bryce Young.
|
Likely a terrible decision by Canales. hope it doesn't damage his career beyond repair.
|
Cash in.
|
Not a sexy hire, but it really doesn’t matter. That franchise will be circling the drain for the foreseeable future.

The Buccaneers' offense never looked other-worldly. Yeah, great job under the circumstances with Baker, but was Canales' work in Tampa worthy of a head coaching position? **** no.
The Bucs offense was 18th and 20th in points and yards per game, respectively. "HEY DAVE! GREAT JOB COORDINATING A MIDDLE OF THE ROAD OFFENSE! OF COURSE, WE DON'T HAVE A DECENT RB OR A GOOD WR CORPS LIKE YOU DID IN TAMPA, BUT COME TRY AND FIX OUR BROKEN #1 PICK ANYWAY!" I just don't get these hires.... |
Dead man walking

Seems underwhelming to me. His entire career was built on a few games where he beat a checked out eagles team and then did well against a pass funnel lions team. This after barely winning a lousy nfc south.
Much of the year the Bucs looked like the boring offense he ran for Russell in Seattle. Super super conservative. It took almost the entire season to realize they should be running that offense through their elite WRs instead of through Rashaad white. Maybe he’s now learned that lesson. But my guess is it’s gonna be boringly conservative. Which means the team either recognizes they have a dud in Bryce and/or top coaches weren’t exactly jumping at this opportunity . |

Tepper is their owner. Though I disagree with your assessment of David Canales' job in TB. They were slated to win less than 5 games this season; they went 10-8 and made it to the NFC divisional round, and had a chance to win that game. With a rookie OC and a FA QB that everyone gave up on and decided was a bust. that's not nothing. Not saying Canales is elite (way too soon to evaluate his abilities accurately) but he's obviously pretty good at OC. But I have serious doubts he can be successful in CAR with that ownership and that roster. |

I'd love to see the list of people that refuses to even interview for that job.
|
Is Bieniemy still getting interviewed for all these openings?
