4th Year Grade For Dick Vermeil
Well DV is probably the nicest damn guy to have the head coaches title in the NFL but putting aside the fact that he is so likeable how would you grade him now into his 4th season.
Our high powered offense the past couple years was exciting and a lot of fun to watch but now in his 4th season we have yet to win a playoff game and our defense has been the worst in the NFL over that 4 year stretch. We are now a very old offense by NFL standards and our defense is showing no signs of becoming adequate before most of the offenses key players get too old. It is very likely that he leaves after this season leaving us with the worst defense in the NFL and a offense that is very long in the tooth on top of that a well below average job in the draft the past few years leaving us very little up and coming talent. Assuming this season ends up 8-8 or worse and a non-playoff season how would you rate the acquisition of DV that cost us a 2nd and 3rd round pick on top of a team that will most likely be in a struggling rebuilding phase? I'm not really looking to turn this into a rip DV session as I really like the guy but just looking for a honest opinion as to how you view this past four season process. |
Wait til the season is over.

You can't grade a year until it is over. I really wish people would step away from the ledge.
|
we would have just wasted the draft picks anyway

I agree with J Diddy and the claymation man.

If it makes you feel better then make it a 3 year and 2 game grade. :D |
Taco, was that you that handed out the A?
|
Too early to determine. KC peaked too early last year. We don't yet have that worry this year.

If we don't win the Super Bowl, his tenure was a failure. Same with every team. That's why they play the games, for the championships.

while this season has been a total disaster so far, and our coaches have been out coached badly, and our team seems painfully ill-prepared in all phases, and our defense is worse then last year (which defies some natural law), it is still too early to give the grade....prior to this season starting, DV had cleared out Marty-ball and given us a 13-3 season with home field advantage
my fear, now, is that last year was our only real chance....we'll see, much to be decided |
I give him an A so far this year.
A for AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! |

There was a stat thrown out on the FOX broadcast about the amount of points the Chiefs had given up in their last 5 games (I think) last season, and first 2 games this season. It was an unbelievable stat. I have loved watching what DV brought to this team. They have been a pure joy to watch with Dante on ST's and the offense the past couple of years. And we had a chance to go to the Super Bowl. For the better part of last season, it was a real chance too. My only negative thought on DV is this.... that we may have too many "profile" guys on this team. At the risk of sounding like Whitlock, I really think we could use some guys on defense that were just down right nasty at times. I'll give him high marks though, cause the Grbac and players quitting was really one of the low points of my 35 years of being a Chiefs fan. Don't ever want to go back to those days. |
This defense is NOT worse than last year's. Not by any stretch.
However, the offense is much, MUCH worse. |
