Alot of people and media are saying we look a whole lot like the 2011 niners. Last time i checked there's only ONE guy from that team that's on ours now: ALEX SMITH. And the resemblance begins as soon as he arrives. I'm not here to give Alex credit for the D's domination. I'm just here to point out that Alex's style of play and efficiency has a huge impact on not only our offense but our Defense as well. This "game manager" approach sets up his defenses in good field position and provides ample rest for defensive players. These are two of the biggest factors besides good coaching in maximizing defensive success. Sometimes teams don't really get to figure out how great their defense can be because the qb keeps turning the ball over.
In my opinion no coincidence. The Reason why our D is dominant is because they have a qb who's finally understands them has their back.

Yes, injuries and distractions have nothing to do with the San Francisco defense playing at a lower level. It's not like their most explosive defensive player is in rehab right now or anything (oh, wait...).
Someone posted the stats earlier this week, but the Alex Smith-led offense actually ISN'T holding the ball that much or providing that much extra rest for the Chiefs D. They are protecting the football, sure, which helps. But the rest argument is overblown.
The Chiefs D being dominant has more to do with:
1) Dontari Poe becoming an unblockable monster in the middle (Nothing disrupts an offense more than a DT who can annihilate the pocket).
2) Health. Eric Berry and Kendrick Lewis are healthy and have solidified the pass D so far, though if Flowers keeps playing through nagging injuries, that's a concern.
3) Smart additions. Sean Smith, Akeem Jordan, Nico Johnson have all been nice additions to the team and filled in significant weaknesses from a season ago.
4) Justin Houston improving, Hali being himself.
5) Better scheme that is more aggressive and less reactive.
