NOVA on PBS last week had some ballistic experts in New Mexico set up and test the "magic bullet" theory, and they concluded it was possible for the bullet to go through Kennedy's neck, Gov Connolly's back and wrist, and still be pristine on the outside.
Basically, they said that the italian rifle used a full metal jacket bullet with a hard lead core, and although the bullet looked clean on the outside, it did warp a bit from its original shape. After going through Kennedy's neck clean it started to tumble instead of spin, and that's why the wound in Connolly's back was oval instead of round, and why the bullet was able to break his wrist after exiting his chest.
That doesn't mean somebody else didn't take the head shot. I still believe there was more than one gunman.
