KU/MU was a blood feud. KU/KSU is brothers wrestling in the backyard. KSU is doing their part to try and keep the competition at a high level, but KU fans aren't real likely to give KSU credit their due for their share of the conference championship, like due to the "to be the man, you gotta beat the man" attitude, with KSU losing twice in the regular season and again in the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament.
Kansas football is a different story. Mangino created a number of problems for himself while at Kansas and was dismissed in spite of his success. Recruiting went from bad to worse from Mangino to Gill, with some solid RB recruits, but way too many question marks on the offensive and defensive lines. Weis is making some improvements, but getting Kansas turned around is going to take some time. Fortunately, Kansas has an AD that knows what it takes to turn a football program around, with his experience as an assistant to Snyder at KSU, and as an assistant at USF.
