So many teams get underseeded just to follow the bracket rules that getting a higher seed doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get a good matchup after the first game. Yes, the benefit of the high seed is pretty much just the first game (as the 16s are usually quite awful). It's a virtual bye for those top 4 (whereas sometimes you'll find pretty competitive 14s and 15s). But after that, it's all very much even ground for everybody.
