The "back" is a big area. Just because he had two injuries to his back does not mean they were the same injury or that one became the product of the next.

I think that’s an assumption, not a “fact as we know it”. Self said it was a strain and that he was confident Embiid would be back for the NCAA if not sooner. Then they go to LA (upon the insistence of the Embiid family) and all of that changed.
Whether or not the initial strain and the stress fracture are related, either KU didn’t know the severity the 2nd time around, or they were lying. Not that I’ll come down on them either way, I’m just saying what if he didn’t go to LA. I believe I also heard a quote from Self that Embiid feels fine now, but getting back on the court now would risk aggravating the fracture. No trip to LA = playing this weekend (IMHO).
