Although Sproles is listed as a RB, he really isn't used much as one in the traditional sense. He has 9x as many receiving TDs as he does rushing TDs. I think his skillset is pretty unique and paired in tandem with Charles the two of them together would be greater than the sum of their parts.
The short passing game is Smith's strong point. If the defense wants to rush him, he'd have two options to dump the ball off to quickly; he just has to pick whoever the defense isn't keying on. If the defense is being honest and respecting both Charles and Sproles, then Bowe and Jenkins/Avery/whoever will have time to get open deeper.
