That's tough. The Asus AC routers have all kinds of firmware problems. The Netgear AC routers have similar issues. The Linksys AC1900 just came out and it's running on a Marvell chipset so there's no DD-WRT contingency if things get flaky.
Personally, I think you'd be best to go with a N class router, especially if you don't have any AC clients. You'll have a better chance of finding something mature and stable.
