Upon reading the quote that said "he's now put on 5 pounds of good weight" my first thought was "that's all?"... yeah, his training has been severely hampered this offseason.
I think its safe to say we can forget about a big strength difference, he'll have to improve due to natural quickness combined with a better understanding of the game/technique this year.

So you know what kind of shoulder surgery it was and know the recovery time? If he's already put on 5 pounds of "good" weight, I'd say it is going pretty well.
