You can always freelance. If you can put together a good book of lines/body copy you can work for anyone. I get books sent to me all the time by guys with little to no experience. Some of them are good enough that we actually use them.
If you can write you can write. A degree and experience just makes it easier to get your foot in the door. My ECD has no degree. Got his job by showing off ads he'd written for the Thrifty Nickel to DDB in something like 1975. He's a badass and he has no formal education.
