Don't I know it. Other Marvel characters have been race-flipped before, but that's always been because the perfect choice for the actor happened to be black (Michael Clarke Duncan, Idris Elba, Samuel L. Jackson). The Human Torch, though, is a prime example of the pandering I was typing about earlier, because they cast his sister with a white actress; that means they'll have to (for narrative and non-confusing-the-audience purposes) explain the multi-ethnic siblings in the story. So he doesn't just happen to be black, they're changing the character so he is black, and making it a plot point, even if only a minor one. Terrible move for what will be a terrible movie.
It's also overshadowing the rest of the ways they're dooming that movie before it begins, not the least of which is that Mr. Fantastic looks like he's 25, and Ben "The Thing" Grimm is being played by the short, thin, lithe dancer who was in Billy Elliott.
Marvel should have those rights reverted back by 2020, I should think.
