Again, it's pretty simple for anyone who doesn't want to be naive.
The NFL destroyed all of the evidence.
That means it was really, really, really, really bad. Now, until this scandal, everyone had basically forgotten and stopped caring (I know this because I was bringing it up in my annual Manning Vs. Brady threads)...
So the NFL destroyed it, everyone forgot and stopped caring, and then they got caught again and everyone suddenly remembers, "hey, that's right! This team cheats!"
But yes.
Destroyed evidence = would've seriously hurt the integrity of the league if it saw the light of day.
Probably the Rams walkthrough was the big one.
