Maybe it's because the act of writing is largely personal whereas acting is performance based. That, and probably no good movie can really capture the process of writing, because if it did it would be interminable and boring as hell.

As an actor, I can't say I particularly love movies about acting. What I loved about Birdman was that it used the idea of an acting career to examine this guys self-loathing and regret. I liked that it used performance as a nearly spiritual exercise for him to come to terms with his life. The acting part might have made it more accessible to me, but I think that's it.
